The Standing Committee on Advancing Science Communication welcomes you to the 5th Science Communication Colloquium! The need for equitable, effective, and evidence-based science communication has never been more important. This multi-day hybrid event will bring together researchers, communicators, and leaders from communities and the public and private sector to learn from one another and reflect on lessons for science communication from COVID-19.
Sessions will feature the latest evidence, insights, and promising approaches for addressing critical challenges facing science communication—communication inequities, political polarization, uncertainty, and misinformation. Together, panelists and participants will generate new ideas and make connections that will help move these ideas into action.

Dates and Locations
June 1, 2022 – National Academy of Sciences Building, Washington, D.C. and virtual
June 2, 2022 – Fully Virtual
June 6, 2022 – Beckman Center of the National Academies, Irvine, CA and virtual
The colloquium will be a free hybrid event with a somewhat unique format. Day 1 (June 1) will be held in person at the National Academies in Washington, DC, and online. Day 2 (June 2) will be held virtually only, and Day 3 (June 6) will be held in person at the National Academies’ Beckman Center in Irvine, California, and online. We are hoping that this format gives participants the most potential access to attend at least one day of the event in-person while minimizing travel, and the opportunity to access the full event online, if they are not able to travel or comfortable doing so.
To prevent infection and spread of the COVID-19 virus, and as an integral measure toward the safety and health of everyone in our buildings, the National Academies require all individuals who enter our facilities to be up to date with their vaccinations, including boosters, against COVID-19 per CDC guidance. Visitors may choose to wear a mask but are not required to do so. Please view our current operating status for the most up-to-date information.
All visitors to National Academies facilities — including volunteers, Academy members, invited guests, fellows, sponsors, presenters, vendors, contractors, consultants, temporary workers, and other non-staff — must be up to date with their vaccinations, including boosters, against COVID-19 per CDC guidance.
Visitors must show their official COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (or a digital photo of the card) to the security staff at the Keck Center or the NAS Building, or to the management staff at the Beckman Center, when they enter the facility. A visitor’s vaccination information will not be recorded or stored by the National Academies; the information will simply be verified to allow them to access the facility. Anyone who fails to present a vaccination card (or its copy) will not be allowed access to our facility; no exemptions or exceptions will be accommodated.
