Join us on September 22-23, 2021 for The Cancer and Health Equity Conference discussing critical racial and health equity issues particular in cancer prevention and survivorship and other areas of public health inequities. This is an opportunity to celebrate the collaboration of priority populations in combating cancer and tobacco related health disparities.
This virtual conference will be an opportunity for both newer cancer control advocates as well as those more experienced to participate and engage. The Conference details are below:
Conference Mission Statement: To advance equity in cancer prevention and control by uplifting upstream community-centered approaches, dismantling institutional racism and building community capacity and empowerment.

Featured among the speakers are:
Dr. Sora Tanjasiri is DrPH, MPH, is a Professor at the University of California, Irvine Department of Epidemiology, and Associate Director of Cancer Health Disparities and Community Engagement at the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her research focuses on community health promotion to reduce cancer health disparities among diverse populations.
Chanita Hughes-Halbert, PhD serves at the University of Southern California's Comprehensive Cancer Center as the Vice-Chair for Research, a Professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine, and the Associate Director for Cancer Health Equity. The goal of Dr. Hughes-Halbert’s research program is to identify multilevel determinants of minority health and cancer health disparities and to translate this information into sustainable interventions in clinic and community-based settings to improve cancer outcomes and chronic disease management in diverse populations in local and regional geographic areas.
The overall objectives for the conference are:
Describe the current impact of cancer on the Asian American and the Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander communities and the role of inequities in cancer prevention/ control.
Engage in a dialogue in addressing institutional racism, homophobia and transphobia through a health equity lens and identify tools and opportunities to dismantle racial and health inequities in commercial tobacco and cancer control.
Identify and build opportunities with existing resources to help AA and NHPI communities take action through policy and system changes.
Address primary prevention of cancer health through upstream control systems.
