The Eastern New York Student Chapter of The American Society for Microbiology (ENYSCASM) proudly presents the free and fully virtual 2022 Trainee Symposium!
The annual ENYSCASM Trainee Symposium provides microbiology trainees with an opportunity to present their work to a network of peers. Undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows are encouraged to attend and apply to give poster presentations and/or talks. All talks and poster presentations will be evaluated by a panel of judges and eligible for awards and prizes. Prizes include monetary awards as well as one-year memberships with the American Society for Microbiology.

Dr. Purdy is an ASM Distinguished Lecturer. |

This session will be guest hosted by the University at Albany chapter of Scientista and feature Maddie Sofia Ph.D., a freelance science journalist/communicator and former host of the NPR podcast "Shortwave". Frequently Asked Questions
Who can attend the symposium?
Anyone can attend, but the symposium is intended for trainees, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as postdoctoral fellows, and is designed with these individuals in mind.
Who can submit an abstract?
Only undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows are eligible to submit abstracts. Postdoctoral fellows less than 3 years from completion of their degree will be given preference, but all are eligible.
Are there any costs to attend, submit an abstract, or present?
No, this symposium is entirely free for attendees and those who wish to present their work.
Is there a deadline to register to attend?
Attendee registration will remain open until the end of the symposium.
Should I register if I'm submitting an abstract?
Yes, please register as an attendee. If your abstract is selected for a poster presentation or live talk, you will be registered (or your existing registration status will be modified appropriately) to ensure you can share slides, upload poster talks, etc. as needed.
Do I need to download any software to attend?
No, this event is browser-based and you will not need to download any software to attend or view talks and posters.
Do I need to present a poster if I'm accepted to give a live talk?
No, but you may present a poster in addition to a live talk if you would like.
Are all browsers supported for this event?
Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox will both support the platform used to hold the symposium but Chrome is preferable for an optimal experience. Microsoft Edge will not support the platform and Edge users are encouraged to use another browser.
Can I submit an abstract if I have previously given a JAM USA talk?
Yes, as long as you are still a student or postdoctoral fellow.
