Now in its 13th year, Paint for Preservation is the Cape Elizabeth Land Trust's (CELT's) signature fundraiser and is known as one of the premier art auctions in the state of Maine. Each year, 30 of Maine's finest plein air artists are selected by a jury and then gather for a weekend of painting outdoors on locations that highlight the stunning beauty of Cape Elizabeth's natural areas. Traditionally, the resulting works are auctioned live at a seaside tented reception that attracts 400 or more participants. Art enthusiasts may also purchase smaller works by these juried artists; these "Mystery Boxes" are packaged in black boxes and bought sight-unseen for a later surprise unveiling. All artists donate a portion of art sales, and contributions are received from generous Sponsors and individuals on the Host Committee. Proceeds benefit CELT's land conservation, stewardship, and education programs.
About Us
The Cape Elizabeth Land Trust (CELT) permanently conserves and provides stewardship for lands cherished by our community—from shorelands to marshes, from farmlands to woodlands—for the education, use, and enjoyment of this and future generations. Since 1985 CELT has conserved and cared for more than 770 acres on 29 properties. CELT is still a grassroots organization dependent on community involvement and volunteerism. We invite you to join our organization in support of our ongoing conservation efforts.
