The Blue Line was the first light rail line that opened as part of the Metro Rail system in 1990. From January through October, this line has been closed for renovation and modernization. As part of the reconstruction project, Metro was able to save over 300 vintage Blue Line signs from being destroyed.
On Thursday, October 24, 2019 the Metro Shop will be hosting a Blue Line Celebration and Vintage Sign Auction event, both live in the Union Station Historic Ticketing Hall from 5-7 PM and online at https://www.accelevents.com/e/MetroBlueLine. The live event will include a musical performance by Maria de la Vega and the Wayward Five, themed refreshments, and information tables from a variety of Metro departments including Metro Art and Design and Metro Sustainability, along with information about line renaming and upcoming A Line reopening events.
Participants will be able to preview the signs online at the link above or in person at Union Station from 3-5 PM on the day of the event. Winning bidders are responsible for picking up their signs by 10 AM on Friday, October 25, 2019 or arranging and paying for shipping. For questions on the auction event, please contact Devon Deming, Director of Metro Shop and Commute Services at demingd@metro.net..
Sample auction items are listed below. The full list will be up a few days before the event.
