ENMU Women is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization organized for charitable purposes and fostering a spirit of service within Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) and the community through volunteer opportunities.
ENMU Women first met on September 10, 1940 under the name of Faculty Dames, which was changed to University Wives and Women in 1981 and then ENMU Women in 1990. The organization has always been involved in volunteering activities such as Meals on Wheels and KENW-TV's quarterly pledge drives, but the organization first started out as very social and charitable. As the years passed by, ENMU Women became more involved in various social groups including bridge, cooking, sewing, and home arts.
The scholarship endowment at the ENMU Foundation was created in 1981, which was the turning point for the group to start becoming more charitable again. Social activities still occurred, but by the early 2000's, they were more limited to standard organizational meetings. Today, fundraising for ENMU Women's scholarship is the organization's primary purpose in addition to finding new volunteer activities as opportunities arise. Our scholarship program is specifically for re-entry female students, which are those who have had at least one semester break in their education such as between high school and college, while attending college, or between undergraduate and graduate degrees. Approximately $47,000 has been awarded since 1982 with over $15,000 in just the past five years!
Membership to ENMU Women is open to any woman associated with ENMU including spouses of current and former employees and alumni. If you are interested in joining, contact Jessica Small at jessica.small@enmu.edu or (575) 562-2218.
We hope you enjoy browsing through the available auction items provided by our generous donors. Auction items are currently unable to be viewed but will be available on the day of the auction. Keep in mind that even though you might be able to view auction items prior to the start of the event, check back after the official start time as items will be added as they become available that morning. When activated, click the "Auction" tab to start viewing items and feel free to filter by category! Should you wish to donate rather than bidding on an item, you may do so by clicking on the "Donate" tab.
The auction opens at 12:00 p.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m. (Mountain time) on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Bidders may submit bids by text, mobile, or online. Your bidding method will determine how you will receive out bid notifications. If possible, we suggest taking note of the three letter code of each item to start bids by texting (206) 207-6403. Type the item's three letter code and bid amount (ex. DOT$20). That way, you can be notified wherever you go! Although you may be able to view items prior to the start of the auction, ENMU Women requests that you do not submit any bids until 12:00 p.m. Any bids received prior to the opening will be deleted.
Once the auction closes, the items are available to be picked up until 7:00 p.m. at Eastern New Mexico University's Family and Consumer Sciences Building on S. Ave. N in Portales, NM 88130 across from the University Theater Center next to the Child Development Center. Masks will need to be worn and social distancing maintained as much as possible in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines. Payments are required to be made by pick up time, or the item will not be released. Once the auction ends, each winning bidder will receive a link to confirm items won and a request to pay by card. Alternatively, payments may be made by check when picking up their winning items.
If drop off arrangements within a 50 miles radius around Portales are needed, please call Jessica Small at (575) 562-2218 as soon you become aware they are needed. If she is unable to answer, please leave a message with your name and a call back number. Jessica will return your call as soon as possible. ENMU Women will make every effort to deliver auction items the same day, but it might be necessary to make next day arrangements depending on the item and the winner's location.
Should any auction items not be picked up or arrangements made before 7:30 p.m., the second highest bidder will become eligible for the item and will be contacted. If the second highest bidder is unavailable, the third highest will become eligible and so on down the list.
We hope you enjoy the event and thank you for supporting ENMU Women!
