In September, 2018, our friend Sean Aaberg–father of three, husband, and visual artist–suffered a massive stroke, died, and was resuscitated.
The stroke severely weakened his left side; he lost his ability to speak, to walk, and even to breathe.
After three months in a succession of hospitals–when he could breathe on his own again–Sean was discharged to an intensive care rehab facility. With daily support from his family, Sean made the transition to home care and rehabilitative therapies just before the New Year in 2019.
Two years out, he has yet to able to return to work.
“I’ve been a strong, independent, and helpful person all my life. Having this stroke has weakened me and made me dependent in unprecedented ways.
“I’m a visual artist: I haven’t been able to draw with my left hand this whole time. The good news is I’m feeling physically and mentally healthy; recovery–though going at a snail’s pace–has been trending upwards.
I’m learning how to draw with my right hand, but it’s going to be a long time before I am able to execute work that I want to sign my name to.
“This raffle will really help us; with my entire family, I am deeply grateful.
–Sean Aaberg
